UK Visitor Rules Change on 8 October 2026: What Pakistani Applicants Should Know
The UK has updated its Immigration Rules through Statement of Changes HC 584, and most of it took effect on 8 October 2026. For Pakistani travellers, the important part is a small set of changes to the Visitor route. They widen what a visitor is allowed to do in the UK, but they do not change the basic visit visa tests or the fee.

What changed for visitors
According to published summaries of HC 584, the Visitor route changes cover these areas:
- Visitors doing permitted training no longer need to show the same training is unavailable in their home country
- Workshops and debates can be attended by visitors
- Visitors can take part in skills competitions
- Artists, entertainers and musicians can attend rehearsals
- Qualifying entertainment staff can assist with performers’ permitted activities
- Rules adjusted for the UK’s participation in Erasmus+
Summaries differ slightly in which items they list, so read the Statement of Changes itself, or ask us, before relying on any single activity for your trip.
What did not change
A UK visit visa is still decided on the same questions: is the visit genuine, can you fund it, and will you leave at the end? The visit visa fee for Pakistani applicants remains £135 for a stay of up to six months. Strong ties to Pakistan, clear bank statements and a realistic itinerary matter as much as they did last week. For the full picture see our guide to the UK visit visa fee.
Who benefits most
Pakistani professionals, students on short courses, musicians and performers, and people attending conferences or skills events are the likeliest to notice the difference. A family visit or tourist trip is unaffected. Remember that a visitor still cannot work in the UK, and permitted activities are limited. If your trip involves training or a performance, state it clearly in your cover letter and attach the invitation or event details.
Other UK changes coming soon
The same package includes later dates. One summary lists 29 October 2026 for religious worker rules, 30 November 2026 for a higher funds requirement for new Student visa applicants, and 9 December 2026 for a passport rule affecting EU scheme holders. These do not affect standard visit visas. Visitors should also remember the UK now uses eVisas, as covered in our UK eVisa guide.
