China Visa for Pakistanis 2026: Zero Visa Fee, Service Charges and the Group Rule

China is one of the most requested destinations for Pakistani travellers, and it is also one of the most misunderstood when it comes to visas. Over the past year China has opened visa-free entry to dozens of countries, but Pakistan is not among them. Here is what a Pakistani passport holder actually needs for a Chinese tourist visa in 2026, and what it costs.

Pakistani tourists still need a Chinese visa before they travel.

Pakistan is not on China’s visa-free list

China’s 30-day visa-free policy now covers 46 countries and territories, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain, and it is currently set to run until 31 December 2026. Pakistan is not on that list. If you see a social-media post claiming Pakistanis can now fly to China without a visa, treat it with caution and check it against the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad first.

Do not buy tickets first. Without a visa you can be refused boarding. Apply for the visa first and book flights afterwards.

The visa fee is zero, but the service fee is not

According to the official Chinese Visa Application Service Centre fee schedule for Pakistan, the visa fee itself is PKR 0 for single, double and multiple-entry visas and for group visas. What you do pay is the application service fee at the visa centre.

PKR 0
Chinese visa fee
PKR 13,200
Regular service fee (incl. GST)
PKR 19,800
Express service fee (incl. GST)

The visa centre accepts cash only, and service fees are non-refundable. Optional extras, such as the premium lounge service, cost more. Always check the current fee table on the official visa centre website before you go.

Tourist (L) visa: the group rule

The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan says that for tourism, Pakistani nationals are expected to travel as part of a tourist group of more than five people arranged through a qualified local travel agency. This is the point that surprises many first-time applicants. Independent solo or family tourist applications are not the normal route, so most people either join an organised group or apply under a different category, such as a business or family-visit invitation, where they genuinely qualify.

Typical requirements listed by the embassy include:

  • Passport valid for at least six months with blank pages
  • Completed online application form with printed confirmation page
  • Recent passport-style photographs on a white background
  • Copy of the passport data page
  • First-time applicants: interview and an attested police character certificate
  • Previous Chinese visa pages if you have held one before
Note: The embassy’s L-visa page we checked was last dated 2018, while visa-centre procedures have since moved to an online system. Requirements can change, so confirm the current checklist before you submit anything.

How long does it take?

The embassy states that processing normally takes 4 working days, subject to the visa officer’s decision. Extra documents or an interview can add time, and the visa centres advise applying well ahead of your travel date. Applications are submitted through the visa centre that covers your region: Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi.
