UK Visit Visa from Pakistan (2026): The New eVisa Explained

In 2026 the UK switched to a fully digital eVisa. If the change has left you confused, here is the plain version for travellers from Pakistan: an eVisa is simply an online record of your visa held in a UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) account — instead of a sticker in your passport. When you fly, you prove your permission with a secure share code that airlines and border officers check online. Crucially, it does not remove the need to apply. You still apply for, and must be granted, a Standard Visitor visa before you travel. Only the format has changed, not who needs a visa.

The digital system has real upsides: there is no sticker to damage, nothing lost if your passport goes missing, easy access to your conditions at any time, and simpler updates when you renew your passport. The one habit to build is protecting your UKVI login and keeping your contact details current — that account is now your lifelong proof of status.

Not the same as an ETA. The UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation is only for non-visa nationals. Pakistani passport holders are visa nationals, so you still need a full visitor visa — an ETA is not an option for you.

What the visa lets you do

The Standard Visitor visa allows stays of up to six months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business meetings and conferences, short courses, weddings and events, and private medical treatment. What you cannot do is work, run a business, marry or register a civil partnership, claim public funds, or live in the UK through repeated back-to-back trips. Long-term visitor visas valid for 2, 5 or 10 years are also available — each individual visit is still capped at six months, but they save you repeated applications and fees if you travel often.

London remains a top destination for Pakistani visitors — family, tourism and business.

The one test that matters

Every application is judged on a single question: are you a genuine visitor who will leave the UK at the end of the trip? The caseworker wants to see strong reasons for you to return to Pakistan — a steady job or business, family, property, and enough money to fund the visit without working. Weak finances and unclear ties are the number-one cause of refusal. Keep every document consistent, write a clear cover letter explaining your trip, and never submit false papers — a single fake document can trigger a refusal and a long-term ban.

How to apply, step by step

Start on the official UKVI website: complete the online form and pay the visa fee. Next, book a biometrics appointment at a VFS Global visa application centre in Pakistan — available in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi — where you give your fingerprints and photo and submit your documents. A standard decision usually takes around three weeks (15 working days). If you are in a hurry, priority and super-priority services can return a decision in a few working days for an extra fee. On approval, create or link your UKVI account, view your status, and generate a share code when you travel. Always apply well ahead of your travel date so a busy season does not put your plans at risk.

Documents you’ll need

Requirements vary by profile, but most applicants from Pakistan should prepare:

  • Valid passport
  • Bank statements (6 months)
  • Proof of funds & income
  • Employment / business proof
  • Cover letter
  • Flight & hotel bookings
  • Invitation & sponsor papers
  • CNIC & family documents

Fees (from 8 April 2026)

£135
6 months
£506
2 years
£903
5 years
£1,128
10 years

These are official visa fees only — they do not include priority services or VFS service-centre charges, and they can change, so confirm the current amount before you pay. A TB test is only required for stays over six months, so it is usually not needed for a normal visit visa.

Common reasons applications are refused

Most refusals come down to a handful of avoidable issues: bank statements that show large, unexplained deposits just before applying; income that doesn’t match the lifestyle or trip being described; a weak or missing cover letter; and thin evidence of ties to Pakistan. Inconsistencies — names, dates or amounts that differ across your forms and letters — also raise doubts. The fix is simple in principle: present honest, steady finances, explain your purpose clearly, and make every document line up.

After approval — and at the border

Once approved, you manage everything through your UKVI account rather than a passport sticker. Before you fly, generate a fresh share code and keep it handy. Even with an eVisa, carry printouts of your key documents — hotel booking, return flight, invitation and proof of funds — because a border officer can still ask about your trip on arrival. Answer simply and consistently with what you wrote in your application.

Quick answers

Do I still get a passport sticker? Usually not — your visa is digital and managed through your UKVI account and a share code.

How much bank balance do I need? There is no fixed figure. Show enough to cover the trip comfortably, plus proof of income and strong ties to Pakistan.

Can anyone guarantee a visa? No — the decision rests with the Home Office. What a good consultant guarantees is a complete, honest, well-prepared file that gives you the strongest possible chance.
