Germany Visit Visa from Pakistan 2026: Waiting-List Appointments, No Appeals, €90 Fee & Documents

Germany is one of the most popular Schengen destinations for Pakistani families, business travellers and tourists — and one of the most misunderstood. Applicants in Punjab, KPK, Islamabad and AJK apply through the German Embassy Islamabad, while Sindh and Balochistan residents use the Consulate General in Karachi. Both missions now run a waiting-list appointment system, and since July 2025 there is no informal appeal (remonstration) if your visa is refused. Here is what every Pakistani applicant should know before applying in 2026.

1. Appointments: you join a waiting list, not a calendar

Unlike VFS-run Schengen missions, Germany handles short-stay visas directly at its own missions. You cannot pick a date yourself. Instead you register on the mission’s online system, receive an e-mail with a waiting-list number, and are assigned an appointment later in chronological order as capacity allows. Islamabad has operated this way for some time; Karachi has now adopted the same waiting-list model because of “constant high demand”.

Two rules matter here. First, register only once per person — duplicate registrations are cancelled or turned away at the counter. Second, fill in the travel-purpose details carefully: the embassy states an appointment is only allocated when the data is complete and correct.

2. No more remonstration: a refusal is final unless you go to court

Until 30 June 2025, German missions offered a free “remonstration” procedure — a written objection that let the visa section re-examine a refusal. The Federal Foreign Office abolished remonstration worldwide from 1 July 2025, for all visa types and all nationalities, after a pilot showed it freed up staff to process more applications.

What this means for you: if your Schengen visa for Germany is refused, your only options are to re-apply with a stronger file (paying the fee again) or to file a formal action at the Administrative Court in Berlin, which is slow and expensive. In practice, getting the file right the first time is now far more important than it used to be.

3. Fees, timing and the biometrics exemption

The Schengen Type C fee is €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6–12 (under-6s are free), payable in Pakistani rupees in cash at the embassy or consulate. Processing usually takes about 14 calendar days, but the embassy warns that peak seasons can take longer, so apply as soon as your dates are firm — up to six months ahead is allowed.

A useful shortcut: if your fingerprints were taken at any Schengen mission within the last 59 months, you are exempt from appearing in person. Tick the relevant box during registration and enter the date of your last biometrics collection (note: this is not always the date of your last application).

4. The document list is strict — and incomplete files can be rejected on the spot

The German missions publish a numbered checklist and warn that missing any document “can be immediately rejected”. For a visit to family or friends, the core items are:

• Current passport (signed) plus all previous passports and visas
• Printed and signed Videx online application form with barcode
• Two biometric photos, not older than 6 months
• Schengen-compliant insurance, minimum €30,000 cover
• Formal letter of obligation (Verpflichtungserklärung) or informal invitation with host’s passport and residence permit copies
• Confirmed round-trip flight reservation
• Employment/university letter with designation, tenure and NOC for the trip
• Copies of all previous visa refusals — hiding one counts as fraud
• CNIC copy, NADRA FRC, marriage/birth certificates where applicable
• Signed “list of children” and “list of relatives abroad” templates
• 6 months of bank statements and 3 months of salary slips
• Printout of your appointment e-mail

Two Pakistan-specific points catch people out. Unsigned passports are invalid under Pakistani law and the embassy cannot print a visa in them — and for a child, the child (not the parent) must sign or give a thumb impression. And the “list of relatives living abroad” form must be complete and truthful; it is cross-checked against your file.

5. Tips from our Jhelum office

Most Germany refusals we see for applicants from Jhelum, Gujrat and Rawalpindi come down to three things: a financial picture that does not match the trip, weak proof of ties to Pakistan, and an invitation that is not backed by the host’s own documents. If your host can obtain a Verpflichtungserklärung from their local Ausländerbehörde, it removes most doubt about who pays for your stay. Keep your bank statement consistent for six months rather than making a large last-minute deposit, and make sure your employer letter clearly grants leave for the exact travel dates.
